When we shop online, we often forget about the details; generally, we browse through heaps of clothes until we fall in love with an item and then with a quick click, we order and pay simultaneously. And in some cases, the item may even be delivered on the same day. Yet, sustainability is very far from the transaction. When we consider responsible shopping we also need to consider sustainability online.
Research Brands
Although Amazon is renowned for being the world’s best convenient store, we also forget that it’s not the only store. If we consider sustainability when shopping, it is essential to look for other options; research smaller businesses, eco-friendly and preloved brands that focus on sustainability.
Shop Local and in Bundles
Carbon emissions have recently become an essential factor to consider when being sustainable however this doesn’t only include the number of times you use your car; it also includes what you consume. Of course it’s amazing that we can purchase clothes internationally; however, this can release a lot of carbon. To reduce your carbon emissions, shop local and if you need to shop internationally shop in bundles to avoid multiple shipments.
Recyclable Packaging
In an ideal world, all brands should invest in recyclable packaging, but the reality is not all companies do. Always check for recyclable packaging, and if you don’t know, ask. Additionally, if you find out the company does not use recyclable packaging, contact the brand and suggest.
Like, Share, Follow and Comment
Finally, when you find a reliable, sustainable or preloved brand where you can pick up a lovely dress or frilly blouse, ensure to spread the word. Like their social media channels, share your love for the brand and leave a great review. Not only does this promote sustainability, but it also helps smaller and much more sustainable businesses grow!
